How to Mess with a Buyer's Head 101

I'm in the market for a laptop and while researching, I came across this chat log of a ZDNet writer getting misinformation from an online HP rep. I guess that's why they call them the "Helpless Desk".

If you've got the $$ go w/ an IBM ThinkPad. They're higher priced for a reason, btw. And don't get anything w/ a Celeron M proc.. they're garbage. - I've had 3 laptops and the only other one that has compared to the IBM is the Dell Latitude (NOT Inspiron). But the IBM (T-42) has been far and away the best quality (fit & finish and reliability) of the bunch. Also pay close attention to the GPU.. mine’s got an ATI 9600, the image is SHARP and w/ the latest issued driver it'll go to 1400 x 1050 w/ its own display and all the way to 4096 x 1536! on an external display. SICK!

anyway - keep up the great rants, Dirk. I'd post more in your political threads but you typically beat me to my own opinion. Nice. - ever think of running for an office? (3rd party, of course).. or about writing a column? seriously, man, you’ve got a gift for making a point.

Thanks for the tips. I see a lot of Celerys in cheaper laptops, but I assumed they'd be as slow as the PC ones. I've been looking at a few things and when I get closer, maybe I'll post another item about it.

As for running for office...yeah, right! How many votes would a candidate get that promised NOT to give the voter any freebies and would give them their money back along with their freedom?

(A: Somewhere in the neighborhood of the Libertarian candidate last time around!)
