Death Penality Opponents For Death?!?!?

Q: What is the primary argument anti-death penalty advocates use?

A: That it is wrong for the State to kill a criminal for crimes they've committed because they MIGHT be the victims of a wrongful conviction - the cops framed them; society's racist; poor toilet training and being raised a bottle baby; whatever - and if the conviction is in error, the punishment is irreversable.

Sound about right?

Then why are these same people sitting silently by while Terri Schiavo is going to be put to death based on the word of her bastard husband?!?!? He's had a relationship with another woman and spawned a couple of kids and has crusaded for the death of his wife (I guess he's against divorce) because HE SAYS that she told him that she didn't want to be kept alive via extraordinary means.

Based on the word of ONE MAN who has an interest in seeing his wife done away with, a court has ordered that this woman be put to a slow and torturous death.

Where are those anti-death penalty people now? Hmmm?

Because some of us believe in the rule of law. That rule says that her legal guardian gets to make decisions that affect her and we have no say in it, regardless of whether we agree and disagree.

To those who value freedom, this is a Good Thing. I want my legal guardian to make decisions for me, not some slimy angling politician or crazy Jesus Freak that thinks I should stick around longer.

You don't get to call yourself a libertarian anymore, Dirk. You called yourself out as a Christian Fascist. You think that because YOU (or should I say Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, etc) believe that Terry Schiavo should stay alive that the LEGAL RIGHTS we as a country have granted her legal guardian should be TOSSED ASIDE, and her fate should be decided BY COMPLETE AND TOTAL STRANGERS.

This case illustrates exactly why you Jesus Freaks need to be pushed out of government.

Yeah, too bad it does. It is a horrible, wrenching decision that Michael Schiavo has made, and it is his descision and his alone. You, me Dirk and Tom Delay need to stay the fuck out of it.

Is there any aspect of modern life you facists don't want to diddle with? What the fuck is wrong with you people?

"Instead of worrying about my wife, who was granted her wishes by the state courts the past seven years, they should worry about the pedophiles killing young girls," Schiavo said, referring to a local case. "Why doesn't Congress worry about people not having health insurance? Or the budget? Let's talk about all the children who don't have homes." - Michael Schiavo

"Too bad the freedom you value so highly involves the murder of helpless innocents. But I guess if you're going to make a utopia you've got to break a couple of brain-damaged, vulnerable eggs."

hey now, allen... we broke plenty of helpless innocent Iraqi eggs on the march to freedom.

It was worth it, though. Greater good and all.

I was waiting for this argument to come back at Allen's comment.

Of course, flip it on its head and you've got the people who loudly mourn the unfortunate collateral casualties in Iraq fall silent as a woman is deliberately being murdered by her husband.

No one reasonable desires the death of innocents and if modern targeted bombings aren't an improvement over say, Dresden, than nothing is.

However, what's happening to Terri Schiavo ain't no accident, but it's interesting to see how it's being handled on the conservative sites. Check out The Corner (link's at right) for the principled back and forth.
